Hi y'all
I'm not a good reviewer, so bear with me.
Terrence & I made the 3 & 1/2 hour journey to see the man in action last
night. The show was 10 times better than the one we saw in
Philadelphia. At least Robyn was, that is. The openers got really
annoying REALLY quick - just because they use almost the exact same
schtick and between song banter that they did 2 weeks ago. And I mean
EXACT.
Anyway, it was a good crowd, very polite. Robyn opened with "Surgery"
(!) and ended with "Higsons" (!(sarcastic)). Got an hour of it on tape
using Terrence's handy-dandy portable cassette recorder. It actually
sounds pretty damn good! We had brought along my 4-track in the hopes
of getting a mixing board lead, but no such luck. Robyn plainly stated
"Uh, not tonight."
So I taped him anyway.
The set contained, but was not limited to (and not in this order):
DeChirico Street
Queen Elvis
Chinese Bones
Surgery
Higsons
I Often Dream of Trains
My Wife and My Dead Wife
I Something You
Only the Stones Remain
Man with a Woman's Shadow
Never Stop Bleeding
I'm Only You
And a bunch others (about 2 of which I've never heard)
Terrence was persuasive enough to go hang out with the man after the
show, got him to sign our lithographs (which Robyn called "crap"), and
managed to bring him down so I could at least meet him. He was very
happy and couldn't have been nicer. He asked us how we thought it
sounded about 3 times. Still didn't get a chance to ask him all those
questions I've been saving up, though. Oh well, maybe next time.
Well there ya have it. Deni offered us free tickets to the Ann Arbor
show, but we can't make it that far west.
bye
